Certification Levels – Senior Professional in Supply Management 

SPSM ® (Essential Procurement Skills)

This first certification program is Level 1 and covers the “Essential Procurement Skills” of the SPSM-BOK®. The path to SPSM® Certification involves completing the Level 1 online procurement courses, passing the SPSM® Exam, and submitting an application. You must earn the SPSM®Certification before you are eligible to earn the higher level certifications (SPSM2®, SPSM3TM, etc.).

Program Components

6 Online Procurement Courses

These courses comprise Level 1 of the SPSM-BOK®

Exam Attempt

A credit to take the SPSM® Certification Exam (a savings of $75).
If a participant is unsuccessful at passing on the included attempt, additional retakes are $75 US each.

Certification Application

The fee for processing your purchasing certification application is included (a savings of $89)

NLPA Library

During the duration of your access and when you become certified as an SPSM, as long as you are in good-standing, you will have access to all of the templates, resources, on-demand webinars, slide decks, and more that are included in the NLPA Library.

Instruction Access

One year of instructor access with prompt email responses. Ask as many questions as needed to assure that you understand the material.

Certificate of Completion

Once you earn this purchasing certification, a beautiful certificate will be sent to you by postal mail.

Engraved Award

After you earn the SPSM Certification, you’ll receive an engraved award you can proudly display on your desk.


SPSM2® (Global Procurement Management)

The second certification program is Level 2 and covers the “Global Procurement Management” competencies of the SPSM-BOK®. The path to SPSM2® Certification involves first earning the SPSM® Certification, then completing the four Level 2 online procurement courses, passing the SPSM2® Exam, and submitting an application.

Program Components

Pass the four self-paced online courses covering Level 2 of the Strategic Procurement & Supply Management Body of Knowledge™. You can expect it to take 32 hours on average to complete these courses. The competencies covered include:


SPSM3 TM (Enterprise-Wide Procurement Influence)

The third certification program is Level 3 and covers the “Enterprise-Wide Procurement Influence” competencies of the SPSM-BOK®. The path to SPSM3TM Certification involves first earning the SPSM® and SPSM2® Certifications, then completing the Level 3 online procurement courses, passing the SPSM3TM Exam, and submitting an application.

Program Components

Pass the four self-paced online courses covering Level 3 of the Strategic Procurement & Supply Management Body of Knowledge®. You can expect it to take 32 hours on average to complete these courses. The competencies covered include:


SPSM Level 4 (External Procurement Influence)

The fourth certification program is Level 4 and covers the “External Procurement Influence” competencies of the SPSM-BOK®.Candidates interested in getting a head start on earning this certification are welcome to enroll in and enjoy the currently available online procurement courses from this level – Exemplary Supply Chain Social Responsibility and Strategic Supplier Diversity Best Practices.
