As is customary on the first blogging day of the month, I am sharing with you the news of how the SPSM® Certification continues to spread as the world’s most globally recognized procurement certification.

In February, the first SPSM’s from the Philippines and Kenya were certified. This brings the total number of countries with certified SPSM’s to 44 – dozens of countries ahead of lesser, more nationally-oriented certifications.

Good job, but how do you calculate this ? What about the CPSM (ex CPM)and the MCIPS ?
We calculate global recognition by the number of countries in which individuals have been certified.
According to ISM’s “Newsline” publication released just over a month ago, the CPSM had only been earned in nine countries. This is not a surprise as ISM was formerly called the “National Association of Purchasing Management” and, based on my personal interactions, is viewed as a national/American institution rather than a global one. Additionally, their acceptance of bachelors degrees that count towards their CPSM requirements is heavily US-slanted.
CIPS is a little more secretive about their international statistics, but from my personal observation, CIPS is only widely recognized in the UK and parts of Africa. Here in the USA, a CIPS qualification is virtually meaningless.
