I recently had the chance to chat with Spend Matters’ Thomas Kase about the Next Level Purchasing Association’s new online course, “Strategic Supplier Diversity Best Practices.”

There are many opinions on supplier diversity.  Some people consider it an almost worthless pursuit.  Others regard it as the best thing about procurement.  Thomas and I are kindred spirits in that we think supplier diversity can have strategic value – for both society and the business – if done right.

In the Spend Matters article, Thomas writes “An effective supplier diversity program is one that delivers meaningful business impact…Meaningful business impact includes metrics such as top line growth, product and service innovation and other KPIs less typically associated with procurement.”

I couldn’t agree more.
