So, after expending the resources necessary to earn the SPSM, wouldn’t it be a shame to lose it?

Of course it would.

Fortunately, it is easy to extend your SPSM Certification for additional four year periods through a process called recertification.  Though recertification is easy, it doesn’t happen automatically.  And, if you get lazy, you could lose the right to use the SPSM credentials after your name.
